Things Change

The air is thick
No breathing room
We look and then look away
We used to inhale one another
Now we choke

Time seems to stop
No movement.
We try not to flinch.
We used to glide gracefully together
Now we pause

It’s quiet
Not a sound
We go to speak and close our mouths
We used to talk all night long
Now silence
